Be Prepared With These Simple Travel Tips

We know travel is so exciting but oh so overwhelming to prepare for!

Here are 8 travel tips, a few recommended even by flight attendants, to make your travels less stressful and more enjoyable.

Travel Documents

Backup those important documents!!

Your passport, drivers license, travel insurance maybe? It’s a good idea to take pictures of them and email them to yourself, so they are available even if you should lose everything. This tip also applies to the IMEI of your mobile phone. IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity and is a serial number assigned to every mobile phone. It can be used to block stolen or lost phones. You can find it under Settings and Info, or by entering *#06#.

Also! Alert your credit cards and financial institutions that you will be traveling and let them know your destination. This prevents any card cancellations by your bank after making an unexpected purchase far from home. Inquire about details on fees and charges made overseas if traveling abroad. Last thing you need is to come home to an unexpected bill.

Travel Pill Box

Don’t let a stomachache or headache ruin your trip!!

Buy a pill box to easily store all different types of medications and label them all! Use small shampoo bottles for any liquid medication. Whether it’s a headache, nausea, or an upset stomach from all the delicious new food you’re trying, the last thing you want is these issues putting a damper on your day! Also pack a little first aid kit for any accidents so you’re not scrambling for the nearest CVS or pharmacy.

Travel Storage Containers

Get organized!

Use those handy storage cubes, pack them by the day, by the occasion, and make sure not to forget a handy extra bag for laundry. Also use a luggage scale and even bring one with you to avoid those extra fees once you come back home with all those souvenir goodies.

Travel Luggage Tags

Spot your bag a mile away!

Put something on your suitcases like a bright tag (bonus if you add your phone number and email address). Luggage gets mixed up so easily, and makes spotting your luggage right away easy peasy! Bonus tip: add an Apple tag to your suitcase to make its journey trackable! Don’t have an iPhone? They now make something similar for Samsung users as well.

Rest while you Travel

Wake up early, you can always sleep on the flight!

For your flight, arrive 2hrs early (3hrs for international) for no stress no rushing. Bring an eye mask and inflatable pillow for comfort. Noise cancelling headphones, a compact soft blanket, and dress in layers in case you get chilly. I always pack an extra top even an entire outfit in case I spill something or get stuck on a connecting flight without my luggage.

Travel Entertainment

Get ready to binge that show you’ve had your eye on!

Pre-load your iPad with lots of entertainment content and if you love to read don’t forget your kindle! Charge devices before leaving and don’t forget to bring your chargers and an extra battery just in case as older planes don’t have USB ports. Bonus tip: I recommend watching a program or reading a book that is set in the country where you’re going, or a non-fiction book about the country, as that can enhance your travel experience immensely.

Travel No Wifi Connection

One bar?! Oh no!

I highly recommend getting a prepaid eSIM with roaming when you travel to another continent. It can be very frustrating to always search for WiFi just to scan a QR code or find the way. Lots of flight attendants use Flexiroam. It works like a charm and there are different plans available for individual continents or worldwide.

Travel Safe avoid Pick Pocket

Keep your valuables close!

Easy ways to avoid a pickpocket:

Keep your wallet in a front pocket.
Buy travel pants/shorts that have zippered pocket.
Women wear crossbodys that wrap around you and keep it towards the front.
Be extra aware in crowds, markets, and tourist locations
Minimize the damage-Know numbers to cancel your cards, keep a minimum of cash.

Enjoy Your Visit

Enjoy your trip! Unwind, soak in the culture your surroundings, embrace all the beauty and make beautiful memories!

Travel Tips FAQ

How can I find the cheapest flights?

To find the cheapest flights, consider joining our Travel Club Membership. We offer savings that are not available to the public. You can also compare rates on third party apps and websites, such as Kayak Skyscanner, Cheapflights or Priceline to name a few. Booking flights in advance, setting fare alerts, being flexible with your travel dates, and checking for deals are good strategies. Also, flying during off-peak times or on weekdays often results in cheaper fares.

How can I manage my travel budget efficiently?

To manage your travel budget:

  • Set a daily budget and stick to it.
  • Use local public transportation or walk instead of using taxis.
  • Eat at local, affordable places instead of tourist restaurants.
  • Look for free or low-cost activities (museums, parks, etc.).
  • Consider staying in budget accommodations like Air BnB, guesthouses, or vacation rentals.

How can I stay connected to the internet while traveling internationally?

To stay connected:

  • Purchase a local SIM card at your destination for cheaper data rates.
  • Use portable Wi-Fi devices or rent a mobile hotspot.
  • Check if your phone provider offers affordable international data plans.
  • Take advantage of free Wi-Fi in cafes, airports, and hotels, but be cautious when using unsecured networks for sensitive information.

What should I do if I lose my passport or important documents abroad?

If you lose your passport:

  • Report the loss to the local authorities (police) and get a police report.
  • Visit your nearest embassy or consulate to apply for an emergency passport.
  • Bring a copy of your passport and other identification (having digital copies stored online or in your email is helpful).
  • Contact your travel insurance provider if you need additional support or assistance.

What are the essential items to pack for any trip?

Key items to pack include:

  • Travel documents (passport, visas, tickets, etc.)
  • Travel insurance details
  • Basic toiletries and medication
  • A portable charger and necessary electronics
  • Comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing for the destination

  • Copies of important documents (stored digitally or printed)

How can I avoid jet lag when traveling?

To reduce jet lag:

  • Adjust your sleep schedule a few days before departure to match your destination’s time zone.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water during the flight.
  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol, as they can disrupt your sleep.
  • Try to get some natural sunlight upon arrival, and take short naps if needed, but avoid sleeping too long during the day.
