Clase Azul loses trademark case against Casa Azul

Clase Azul vs Casa Azul

Clase Azul vs Casa Azul

The judge tossed out Clase Azul’s claim that Casa Azul was infringing on its trademark, allowing both tequila brands to keep their names. Casa Tradición, the company behind Clase Azul, had argued that Casa Azul Spirits’ name was too similar and could confuse customers. They wanted to permanently stop Casa Azul from using their trademark.

US district Judge Lee Rosenthal disagreed, pointing out that while both brands sell bottled tequila, they cater to different crowds with different packaging and meanings behind their names.

Clase Azul uses additives like vanilla and artificial sweeteners in their tequila, while Casa Azul prides itself on being organic and additive-free.

Judge Rosenthal noted that Clase Azul has had strong sales, totaling hundreds of millions of dollars in recent years, and there was no proof that Casa Azul’s entry into the market hurt their business.

In the end, the judge ruled in favor of Casa Azul, saying the differences between the brands were clear and there wasn’t enough evidence to prove that customers would confuse the two or that Casa Azul was unfairly competing with Clase Azul.
